Where should I refer students who need services the library doesn't offer?

Answer

Here is a list of various student services departments for referrals. Some departments have certain requirements that students must meet in order to qualify for the services. If unsure, refer the student to a success coach.

Food Pantry: https://sccsc.sharepoint.com/sites/M_Info_Sites/chasersfoodpantry

Counseling Services: https://sccsc.sharepoint.com/sites/M_Info_Sites/Counseling *students can request counseling through the student portal

Community Resource Coordinator (CRC): contact Sommer Means, smeans@uwpiedmont.org and 864-913-7762. Sommer is at SCC part-time (shared with Converse) to help connect our students to community resources through the United Way. She can help financial counseling, housing, education, transportation, employment, tax preparation, etc.

Success Coaches: https://sccsc.sharepoint.com/sites/M_Info_Sites/successcoach *students can request a meeting with a success coach through MAP system in the student portal.

Student Disability Services: https://www.sccsc.edu/students/sds/index.php *students can register with SDS through the student portal

AIM: https://sccsc.sharepoint.com/sites/M_Info_Sites/AIM **this program has strict eligibility requirements

AIM is designed to help students in career/technical programs (i.e. not Associate of Arts or Associate of Science, not transfer students). They also cannot help with general education courses or transitional courses, or courses that are labeled 'pre-' like 'pre-nursing' or 'pre-respiratory.'

Aim can help with laptops, calculators and other course materials, books, childcare, city bus passes, etc. You must complete a new application (if eligible) each semester - complete it on their portal website.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be enrolled in a career or technical degree (no AA/AS or transfer), and the need must be for specific courses (see above); you must have completed the FAFSA, used all your other financial aid first, have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, and enroll in at least 6 credit hours (clinicals count).

SCC Foundation: If not eligible for AIM (see above), you can apply for financial assistance from the Foundation, https://sccsc.sharepoint.com/sites/M_Info_Sites/SCCFoundation. They have scholarships, an emergency book fund, book and supply assistance, etc.

Trio Student Support: https://sccsc.sharepoint.com/sites/M_Info_Sites/TrioSupportServices **this program has strict eligibility requirements

Trio offers tutoring, personal counseling, assistance with academic and career needs/goals, cultural/leadership activities, etc. To be eligible, students must meet one of the following criteria:
